Sunday Post | Totally Sick and Lost my Voice

Sunday Post | Totally Sick and Lost my Voice

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news about the past week, reading recaps, new hauls, and more.

Well…

I actually finished Nation of the Sun finally! Yay for finally finishing an ARC, the first ARC of the year! So freaking proud of myself. I have to figure out when I’m going to write my review for it, but I will say that it was an okay novel. It had nothing to do with the narrator or anything, although I will say that for some reason I wasn’t really captured by her voice, but the story just didn’t seem to catch my attention the way I wanted it to. The premise was super interesting, but I guess it just wasn’t executed very well.

I hope that doesn’t sound too mean, but it wasn’t terrible or anything.

I swear I’m trying really, really hard to stop borrowing books when I’m still trying to finish what I have. I also don’t know why it takes forever for me to finish books physically as opposed to on audiobooks – well I mean I know why I can go through audiobooks much quicker but I don’t like that I can’t seem to focus on physical books much anymore. Don’t even get me started on ebooks either. I can’t even seem to focus on those at all. I just can’t seem to get through them anymore, even though I want to. I need a way to be able to request all ALC instead of ARCs, you know what I mean? But it doesn’t seem to be a usual thing. Oh well. Maybe one day.

So have any of you heard of these books? Any of them on your radar or have you already read them? Keep me posted.

So I pretty much got sick over the previous weekend, and I had to call out of work Monday and Tuesday. I went back on Wednesday but as the week went by, my voice refused to come back. I had my board meeting in Richmond on Friday and I still couldn’t talk then. It’s also Saturday night as I write this and my voice is still not back at 100%. It’s pretty weird, but then again I can’t seem to stop talking so it won’t allow me to rest my voice. Although, even when I was resting my voice, it just felt like it was even harder to try to talk again. It was so weird.

It’s just been a weird week with being sick and all that, you know?

I’m hoping that by the time I do get back to work on Monday, my voice will be back. I’ll also be working this Saturday so that’s going to be nice. I’ll have Friday off from the library but will have to work trivia that night so I won’t have much rest… since you know, I like staying up all night reading? Ooh, yeah that was self call-out.

Oh, but I did do something fun on Saturday as well! I got to hand out with a couple of coworkers at a cool arcade bar and we had so much fun playing, eating, and talking! I didn’t know I could have fun outside of work. Well, yes I’m sure I could but I haven’t done something like that in a long while, so it was nice to actually enjoy my time around people again. I may have to do a date night there again one day or something, although if they cut off my jukebox privileges again, I’m going to have to rage. How dare they turn off my music!

So yeah, again I haven’t really been listening to music much, since I’ve been trying to listen to audiobooks as often as I can while I’m doing research for my future project. And I’ve been listening to my personal audiobooks when I’m not at work so I’ve just been listening to books over and over. It’s been great! I love listening to audiobooks honestly, which I’m sure you know since I talk about it all the damn time. I swear it’s not annoying at all, right?

But I guess I’ll share the song that made the arcade bar cut off the jukebox in the middle of the song! Sheesh, I’m so mad about that still. I’ll get over it eventually, but I’m still pretty salty about it.

I mean okay… maybe there were some kids around since it was the afternoon, rather than it being an adult only time. But whatever! It was the SFW version, kinda. Still salty about it.

Of course, I’ve still been on my Lost Girl kick because it’s an amazing ass tv show! Ugh, could you imagine if they brought it back with the original cast? And if they brought back… you know what? I’m not going to finish that sentence since I don’t want to spoil things. Especially since I don’t know how it ends yet either. But still! I need more of Lost Girl all the time.

And Kenzi is my favorite character ever, and I need more stuff with Ksenia Solo in it, so… yeah I’m going to need to see how she’s doing because wow.

I’m definitely curious to see how many books I’ve finished since my last WWW Wednesday, so I’m looking forward to writing up that post when the time comes. I’m also on top of my goal of having a blog review once a week so far, so I’m happy about that too! Now I just have to make sure that I keep track of that before the end of the month is out. I’m not sure which book I’ll write the review on yet, but I know I have a lot of catching up to do, with the rate I’ve been reading these books. So we will see!

I know, I say “we will see” a whole lot. It’s clearly a catchphrase of mine.

Hasta la bye bye! Until next time!

      1. I hope so too.. I think when the weather warms up then we are in for a healthier season. I would think they have a big hand in it. My kiddo keeps getting sick at school!

  1. Hi Leelynn – oh I hope you are feeling better now. Being sick and trying to get things done is so hard. I read Clark and Division this year and thought it was pretty good. I learned a lot about the Japanese internment during WW2 and how Japanese-Americans were relocated to Chicago. I’ll be interested in knowing what you think if you get a chance to read it!

    1. I’m so much better now, and my voice is back so I’m really happy about that! I don’t know what I would have done if my voice continued to be gone for longer than it was.

I’ll have to write some sort of mini review or something when I get to it. I don’t know how long that will be… as we know I take forever to read sometimes, but I’ll be sure to let you know 🙂
