The premise of this book was pretty creepy and Gothic I will say. I think it worked out in my favorite to listen to it as opposed to reading it, because it felt way more atmospheric to me when I did it this way. I actually enjoyed it.
I feel like the premise of this novel was super creepy – although it has been a while since I read it and I don’t remember if I wrote a review on it. I think I did though. I was curious to see what the rest of the series would be like, especially after that ending. I hope it answers why the world is the way it is right now.
This was was scary and totally not like the Scooby Doo TV shows that I grew up with. It may have been inspired by the show, but I’ll be straight up and say that this is scarier. The threats are real, and the gang has hard core PTSD from what they experienced when they were kids.
I honestly loved how the paranormal elements of this novel were pretty low key and just matched well with the story. I mean, could you imagine growing up in a village where if you don’t give deference to the old gods, your village may die in some horrible way? Not to mention seeing all the creatures in the house that are supposed to protect you from the horrors outside, like the strigoi.
The murders in this book were creepy and honestly heartbreaking. I feel like they were a waste because those that ended up dying just wanted to go back to their worlds. But I really liked this one, and I have listened to it twice so far. I may read it again honestly. And then eventually move on to the rest of the series.

Why do I keep giving myself nightmares by looking up creepy aesthetic gifs? I need to freaking stop doing this.
The Bear and the Nightingale and Every Heart A Doorway are very high on my TBR list. 🙂 Really like the cover of Wither for some reason. Nice and unique selections.

I hope you end up reading both! I still need to finish the rest of the series for both of them honestly because the first books were so good! Oh yeah that cover is pretty interesting. I have a love-hate relationship with that cover honestly haha

I’d definitely recommend getting to the rest of the Every Heart A Doorway series! The fourth book is my favorite, but I gave all of the books four or five stars.

I really want to get on with The Bear and The Nightingale soon. It sounds amazing. And I find Strigoi fascinating… Even if all my knowledge about them is from one series 😅 I really enjoyed Beautiful Creatures and Wither and would like to reread both sometime to refresh my memories of them.

Yes you should totally read it! It was so good ❤ I loved buddy reading that one. Oh yeah they are similar to the Strigoi from Vampire Academy! At least the way that they were described briefly in Arden's novel.
