Shelf Control 007 – August 14, 2019

I’m telling you, I’m getting better at remembering to do these fun posts! Although I think that I need to remember which books I’ve already talked about so I don’t do any repeats. So far, I’ve been pretty good though.

Thanks again to Lisa @ Bookish Fantasies for creating and hosting this weekly meme. It’s always fun and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Want to participate in Shelf Control? Here’s how:

  • Write a blog post about a book that you own that you haven’t read yet.
  • Add your link in the comments!
  • If you’d be so kind, I’d appreciate a link back from your own post.
  • Check out other posts, and…

Have fun!

Title: Sweet Black Waves (Sweet Black Waves #1)
Author: Kristina Perez
Published: June 5, 2018
Length: 448 pages

Not you without me, not me without you.

Two proud kingdoms stand on opposite shores, with only a bloody history between them.

As best friend and lady-in-waiting to the princess, Branwen is guided by two principles: devotion to her homeland and hatred for the raiders who killed her parents. When she unknowingly saves the life of her enemy, he awakens her ancient healing magic and opens her heart. Branwen begins to dream of peace, but the princess she serves is not so easily convinced. Fighting for what’s right, even as her powers grow beyond her control, will set Branwen against both her best friend and the only man she’s ever loved.

Inspired by the star-crossed tale of Tristan and Eseult, this is the story of the legend’s true heroine: Branwen. For fans of Graceling and The Mists of Avalon, this is the first book of a lush fantasy trilogy about warring countries, family secrets, and forbidden romance.

how did i get it?

Borrowed it from the library. Apparently there is no audiobook version of this, and I feel like this would be a good one to listen to.

when did i get it?

Before I went to Hawaii, so sometime in July.

why do i want to read it?

Totally a cover read if I’m honest, but I want to learn about Branwen. It’s not about Tristan and Isolde, although it is a retelling. It’s not about them, it’s about another person and I like books like that.

As you guys probably saw on my WWW Wednesday post, I’m having a hard time getting into it. Is it because I killed my brain reading Golden Son? Probably. I’m hoping to get more into the meat of this one though and I haven’t seen many people talk about this one yet, so I’m hoping I like it and can talk about it.

  1. I’ve never heard of this one but I lowkey used to be obsessed with Tristan and Isolde when I was in high school. I don’t even know how it happened 😂 Very curious about this one! Hope you enjoy it whenever you pick it up lol

    1. Okay I honestly don’t know much about the Tristian and Isolde story, so I went into this blind. I think I liked that better though, because I wasn’t expecting something? I hope that makes sense. Thanks Dini! I’m a little more than halfway done with it now so stay tuned for a review.
