WWW Wednesday – July 10, 2019

Thank you so much Taking on a World of Words for continuing to host this weekly meme! I think this is one of my favorite posts of the week because I get to make like I’m actually going to get to certain books on my TBR when you and I both know it hasn’t happened yet.

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you will read next?
  1. The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart (Tales from the Chocolate Heart #1) – Stephanie Burgis – 45%
  2. Renegades (Renegades #1) – Marissa Meyer – 3%
  3. The Unhoneymooners – Christina Lauren – 1%
  4. Give the Dark My Love (Give the Dark My Love #1) – Beth Revis – 0%

Interesting. No ARCs that I’m currently reading right now, although I should. I guess I needed a break from reading on my phone. It happens. I’ll get back into it soon.

  1. Lock Every Door – Riley Sager (★★★★) ARC Review
  2. Eldest (The Inheritance Cycle #2) – Christopher Paolini (★★★★★)
  3. The Novice (The Summoner #1) – Taran Matharu (★★★★)
  4. The Seduction Expert – Saya Lopez Ortega (★★★) ARC Review
  5. The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy #1) – Katherine Arden (★★★★★)

Do you know how long it took me to finish Eldest and The Bear and the Nightingale? A MONTH. I’m so freaking proud of myself you don’t even know. And I finished Lock Every Door way in time for my blog tour post, so let me just pat myself on the back for that feat.

  1. Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle #1) – Jay Kristoff
  2. Beauty Queens – Libba Bray
  3. The Night Tiger – Yangsze Choo
  4. Time Magic – Kelly N. Jane (ARC Review)

Maybe I need to strive for one ARC a week or something. So I can get my numbers down. And STOP requesting ARCs or signing up for blog tours, despite wanting to get my foot out there. Stop it. Stop it, I say.

Last week I took off anything that wasn’t an ARC, and then what did I do? Start books that weren’t ARCs, or for any challenge really. I suck sometimes, but hey, it’s better than not reading anything at all, right? I think I have some ARCs to read for next week since I’m on another blog tour, so maybe I’ll actually read those first, but you’ll know when I do. Me and Jamie signing off!

  1. Oof, reading on the phone is hard. Or it was for me. That’s why I love my Kindle. xD I swapped my phone for that. The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart sounds delicious and now I’m hungry. It sounds super cute, though. Oh, Give the Dark My Love is supposed to be really good! I’m glad The Bear and the Nightingale was five stars! I wish you the best of luck with not signing up for ARCs anymore. I’ve said the same thing. It never works. I have the willpower of a paper bag in a rainstorm. I should be reading The Night Tiger soon, too, so I look forward to seeing what you think of it. 🙂

    1. Yeah so… I requested more ARCs again on Netgalley and got some email requests from publishers so that failed. I need to do better at restraint lol. But hey, maybe starting tomorrow I won’t actively request ARCs on Netgalley, Edelweiss or BookSirens. I’ll try, anyway lol.

I can’t find my Kindle! I’m so disappointed in myself because that would be the perfect place for me to read all my stuff on, but I have no clue where I put it. I hope it’s not completely lost. But if I find it, I’ll switch to using that 🙂

It is the cutest! I’m further along now and I should be done within the next couple of days or so (unless I force myself to finish it tonight so I can start on another book). You should give it a try! I think it’s middle grade, but I love going into that world lately.

Ahh let me know if you want to do a buddy read discussion post for The Night Tiger ❤ I'd love to partner with you on it if you do that kind of thing!

      1. I pretty much never get email requests from publishers, which isn’t always a bad thing. I get to be very choosy about books and I don’t feel pressure to read something I maybe wouldn’t have otherwise. xD I’ve said that before, and I couldn’t stick to it, but maybe you will! Best of luck. Stay strong, man! 😛

Aww that’s a bummer. =/ I bought a new one a couple years ago not knowing if I’d even like it and completely fell in love with it. I can’t imagine not having one now. I take it everywhere I go. xD

I’ve been on a middlegrade kick lately, too. I can’t help it. They have a monopoly on all the fun, whimsical worlds. I’m a teensy bit jealous.

Oooh, I’ve never done one of those, but that sounds like a ton of fun! I’d love to!

        1. See I love your reserve. I wish I could limit myself to only books that I’d normally read, but then I’ve also seen that when I do take a chance and branch out, I find that I actually really liked the book! Well, some times. Not every single time. You’re amazing though, I need to be more like you in that.

Yeah it was a gift from my mom but when I moved a couple of times, I think it must have gotten lost in the shuffle, which is a total shame because I was using that all the time before I moved. I’ll maybe see if it’s in the cards to get another one like it, especially since it should be on sale now. Well hopefully, anyway.

Yes! Whimsical words, you described it perfectly! I love it so much.

Ahh okay! Let me know when you want to start! I think it would be so much fun 🙂

          1. Ha, no, don’t be more like me. I’m a little too cautious. I do make an effort to try to branch out, though, and request things that I don’t always read, just to be exposed to different things. I tend to rely more on recommendations from bloggers that read similar things, so if they like something that I wouldn’t normally pick up, I’m more likely to give it a shot. xD

Prime Day is in a couple days, if you have Prime. They usually have Kindle sales then. Also, Black Friday. I think that’s when I got mine, and it was pretty cheap. I got just a normal Kindle 8th gen ink e-reader (no backlight) and it was something like $40, maybe? They have front lights on them now, though, which I thought was really interesting.

I’m up for it anytime from the 22nd onwards, I think. I have two ARCs to finish and review by the 23rd, so after that, my schedule is free! 🙂

            1. That makes sense though! I feel like I’m the same way, and when I see there’s a book that I’ve been on the fence about but see people that I have similar interests with and they like it, then it makes me want to read it a little more. Nothing wrong with cautious though ❤

Oh true! I totally spaced on Prime Day! For some reason I thought it already happened. I haven't even looked at the newer ones! Thanks so much 🙂

Anything after the 23rd works for me too!

              1. I try to avoid Prime Day, because the FOMO is strong with this one. xD But every now and then, if I know there’s something I want to look for, it’s usually a pretty good day to grab a few things.

Do I have you on Goodreads? I can never remember anymore. I can send you a message there and we can pick a time that works. 🙂

                1. I’m not sure if you do, but I’ll either find you or you can find me and we can talk there 🙂 I was just about to ask you that. I know I found you on Twitter and was going to use that as a worst case scenario but Goodreads works better!

Oh gosh FOMO is so strong. I suffer from that a lot in the book world lol.

                  1. I have a whole bookshelf that should basically be labeled “FOMO” filled with books I still haven’t read but had to have because everyone loves them and I keep saying I’ll get to them “eventually”. xD I’ve gotten better about not doing that, but the local book sales (books for 25 cents to $1) always does me in.

  2. Nice overview of all the books, Leelynn! I also recently finished The Bear and the Nightingale (and I still really need to write my review for it lol) but ohmygosh, IT WAS SO GOOD! Definitely agree that reading on your phone would be so tiring — it’s like me when I read on my laptop for certain ARCs. And speaking of ARCs… I also gotta get back into reading them! But you don’t suck for not reading them. I mean, we can’t force ourselves when we don’t feel it, right? 😉

    1. I’m trying this thing where I only post reviews for the books I’m reading on my own on Saturdays, so that’s why my review for TBATN hasn’t come up yet. It’s in the queue for Saturday though, but I keep looking for it and then I’ll remember it’s not gonna be there yet lol.

I’m so glad you liked it!! I can’t wait to read your review on it. I always love your reviews so I look forward to reading yours on that one as well.

Lately I’ve been reading the graphic novel ARCs on my work computer because the monitor is bigger so I don’t have to squint. Everything else is Kindle though so I need to read them on my phone until I can find my Kindle again.

You’re so right. If I were to force myself to read them, I would eventually resent them and not want to read them ever again, which is not my goal. I think taking a mini break every once in a while will help me get back into them with enthusiasm 🙂

      1. Did you lose (or as I like to think ‘misplace’) your Kindle? I honestly don’t know what I’d do without my Kindle. I have become ridiculously attached to the things ever since I got one years ago!

I’m so looking forward to reading your review for TBATN! I’m still struggling with writing that one but tbh I’ve been falling behind on writing reviews lol I’ve been enjoying ‘just reading’ too much 😂

        1. Yes I misplaced it a while ago. I don’t remember when so I think that’s why it’s hard for me to find where it is. I’m so disappointed in myself. I feel like when I least expect it is when I will find it though. It always seems to happen that way.

Thank you so much! I hope you like it 🙂 I wrote it immediately after I finished it (I try to do that with all my books so the book is fresh in my mind). Hey, nothing wrong with just reading for a bit 🙂 I’ll do that sometimes where I read and read but don’t write reviews.

          1. Haha I hope you do find it though!! I honestly don’t think I could deal without having my Kindle around. I love physical books but I travel a lot for work and the convenience of a Kindle is amazing!
