Thanks to Dini @ Dini Panda Reads, I’m adding Goodreads Monday to my weekly meme schedule, and I’m excited to do this one. This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it.

The Grace of Kings
by Ken Liu
Series: The Dandelion Dynasty #1
Length: 640 pages
Publisher: Saga Press
Release Date: April 7, 2015
Genre: High Fantasy

Wily, charming Kuni Garu, a bandit, and stern, fearless Mata Zyndu, the son of a deposed duke, seem like polar opposites. Yet, in the uprising against the emperor, the two quickly become the best of friends after a series of adventures fighting against vast conscripted armies, silk-draped airships, and shapeshifting gods. Once the emperor has been overthrown, however, they each find themselves the leader of separate factions—two sides with very different ideas about how the world should be run and the meaning of justice.

Well, for one: silkpunk epic high fantasy is something that I want to get more into. With me falling in love with stories like Jade City, The Poppy War, and The Black Tides of Heaven, I honestly feel like there should be way more out there. Or there are and I just haven’t found them all. This is one that I hadn’t found out about until recently, and I recently requested it as an Interlibrary Loan, but it was only for 15 days, which is way too short for me to read it right now since I’m still trying to read my other ILL and ugh, it’s going to be a bummer that I won’t get to read it on time.
However!
I ended up ordering a copy from Book Depository because I saw this beautiful cover as a release from 2021 and I needed it! I adore beautiful covers like this one, and it’s just way brighter than the original black cover. I did see that the other books have similar covers to this one, so if I like this book, I’ll end up getting the rest. Now, we just play the waiting game to see how long it will take to arrive, but by that time I know I won’t be in too much of a hurry to read it. Yes, I know, what a hypocrite but whatever. I still want to read it eventually!

This is another busy week for me, unfortunately. Well, maybe not unfortunately. I’m working longer days because I have to take Friday off for a board meeting. Luckily I don’t have to work this Saturday, but it’s the only Saturday I’m off. I also totally missed the local tattoo festival because I was working and then on Sunday I was just way too tired to function. I mean I’m already just tired in general, but hopefully I’ll be able to just rest when I’m at the hotel before my board meeting.
I also was a dummy and signed up for pilates classes again? What’s wrong with me lol. Well, I know that I need to really start working out since I haven’t been, but I just don’t wanna. I do miss pilates though. I just wish the membership wasn’t so damn expensive. Now I really gotta make sure I go since I couldn’t keep pausing my membership. I really should have just canceled it no matter how much I thought I would come back, but I guess this is the push I needed to come back. I’ll let you know how I feel after my first session back.

I always wanted to read this book but never picked it up. Eventually I will! Hope you get to enjoy some part of your week!

I love Ken Liu’s short stories, so I do hope to start this series someday! I haven’t gotten around to it yet, though…

I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure of reading his short stories yet, so I’ll have to do that! Oooooohhhhh you should! Potential buddy read maybe??

That would be fun, but I don’t have it on my “soon” list so don’t wait for me! LOL – it might still be quite a long time before I read it.
