Hey mersquad coven!

I haven’t even done something like this is a while, but I wanted to have some time to just have some personal time on here. And since I keep hearing some great thoughts about Storygraph and recommending it, I figured that I would try to see what I found out about my reading habits from the app.

So I guess we should break this down a bit, right? And it looks like it definitely helped Storygraph to have such a huge collection of data to pour over? At least I didn’t have to do it, you know? *lazy Leelynn is Lazy*

Looking at my top three biggest categories that I can visually see, I gravitate towards books that are adventurous, mysterious, and emotional. I’m kind of glad that lighthearted is the fourth biggest category because I don’t want all the books that I seem to read to be so full of tension and strife you know? Don’t get me wrong, stories with adventures are always going to be my favorite – especially because my favorite genre is Fantasy. I’m a fantasy girl, and that’s never going to change unless for some reason the fantasy novels in the future start to suck. Which I doubt because more and more authors are coming into the scene with amazing books and I’ll continue to support the crap out of them.

I did find it interesting that my least read category was relaxing, although I guess it makes sense. I rarely relax even when I want to. I feel like I’m always having to do something before I forget, or just not able to sit down and just chill. Even when I do, I’m constantly on my phone making sure that there’s no emails for me to respond to regarding Hear Our Voices, and making sure I’m not needed for anything else. So maybe I can’t even read a relaxing book because I don’t know how to relax?! I don’t know what this says about me!

Clearly I don’t like slow burn anything. Although sometimes it looks like I do? I don’t really know which books are considered slow paced right now, and I feel like I am too lazy to see if the stats actually tell me if I were to click on that section. But as you can see, I am a medium to face-paced kind of person. Which also makes sense since I feel like I’m always on the go and can’t slow down to even smell the flowers. What flowers?! I don’t see them!

But I do love me some roses. I won’t deny that.

I don’t like big clonkers. My worst experience was with the book that shall not be named and it was way too long. Actually both of the super long books that I read this year felt absolutely too long and I hated both of them. I was super generous in my rating of the second one that I read though, and I feel like it was only because I didn’t want to get exiled from the book community for having such a low rating. But I may end up changing my rating eventually because at this point, I don’t care. Anyway, clearly I don’t like books that are long for no reason? And clearly I feel like some books are too long for no reason. Not always though, since there are occasionally some books that are long but I enjoy… I think.

I feel like I would have known this even if I didn’t run these stats. I mean, hello? I don’t like reading anything involving the real world, and I just can’t seem to get through any non-fiction novels that I try. It just isn’t my thing, sorry.

I feel like I’ve been pretty lucky with the ratings of the books that I’ve had so far. For the most part I’ve enjoyed the books I’ve read. Maybe not LOVED them all the time, but still liked them enough that I had a fun time reading them. Sure, there were some times where I just felt like it was the worst experience ever, and honestly I don’t like to bring those up because I don’t want people to be deterred from reading something just because I didn’t like it. But yeah, for the most part this year, I am so glad that I liked a lot of the books I read!

So based on what Storygraph received from my Goodreads account, I have 138 books that I rated a five star. When I go into that section, it doesn’t separate it by year or anything like that. So I don’t know what order it decided to put the books in. But that’s fine! I’ll take a look at some of my five star reads and show you what they are showing me here. Maybe we’ll find some commonalities between what makes something a 5 star read for me!

I mean, we all know that I could not get enough of this book, so I’m glad that this is here. It looks like it’s categorized as adventurous, emotional, mysterious, and medium-paced. I would say that even though this book got super emotional for me at some points, it contributed to why I enjoyed the book so much. Disclaimer: I did not categorize any of these books like this, so I’m just reacting on what Storygraph is telling me.

So we have another medium-paced book here. And yes, I definitely felt like this book was pretty challenging because of the topics that were discussed, and how much it reflected the real world. I connected with Tavia in that aspect and it actually hurt me to feel the same way because it just was a terrible feeling. I know I explain more in my review, so check that out if you want to hear more of my thoughts. It also looks like another adventurous and mysterious book here.

Oh gosh one of my all time favorite books this year! It was definitely a dark novel, and super emotional. I totally agree with that. I guess I could see how it was medium-paced, and for me I really enjoyed the pacing of this book. I know some people kind of felt like it was a regular fantasy novel, nothing super spectacular about it, but for me it was just breathtaking. I never wrote a longer review in my life, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the trilogy when it comes out.

Oh see this one was considered fast-paced! I could totally see that. This is one of the few dystopian novels that has a world that is actually better than the current world, that really had me wanting to live in it. If you read the kind of technology that Lu shows in this novel – and its sequel – you would want some of it to be around today. I know I did, although Lu also shows that even the best technology can have an evil purpose. There’s always a catch, right? Definitely loved this one and I enjoyed the pace. Another adventurous one, I see.

Finally there is one that’s considered lighthearted, although it definitely doesn’t start out that way. I loved the banter in this novel though, and I could see why it was considered lighthearted. I do agree that this was pretty fast-paced, but not too fast so it worked out for me. Again, another adventurous one, so clearly I like going on adventures with my characters. I’m okay with that! It’s more fun that way.

So after looking into more of the detailed stats, what does it tell me?

I think I’m a little bit more surprised about the emotional part, because I would have thought that I don’t like to get too emotional in my reading. I guess not though, since a lot of what makes me rate a book is how I feel when I read it. So, I guess that does make sense! Hmm, I like that this kind of proved me wrong, or at least opened my eyes a bit to the kind of books that I like to pick. I definitely agree with the fast-paced part, because I always need something that keeps me turning the pages. I don’t know about the book I’m actually reading currently but it’s moving so….. damn…. slow right now and I feel like I’m going to give up on it before I even hit 100 pages. But who knows!

I thought this was fun! I mean, do I feel like I learned a whole lot about my habits? No. But I did learn a little bit more about myself and that was really the main goal, so I’m okay with that! I like that I could see more of the kind of books I chose, based on the mood rather than just the genre. I know my favorite genre is Fantasy, and that’s been clear for years, but seeing the kind of mood that’s associated with each book too is super cool to know.
