#BEAutumn2019 Series: Garden of Evil

Thank you to Sam @ Fictionally Sam and Clo @ Book Dragons for hosting this year’s Bookending Autumn 2019 series! Click on the Bookending Fall Icon to see the announcement page.

Today’s prompt is hosted by Jamsu @ Jamsu Dreams! 🥰

Pick a villain and talk about what you love about him/ her. You can talk about why you liked them more as a bad guy than as a good guy.

Yay for villains!

I’m going to count AIDAN as a villain because if you read this… he does some very bad stuff.

I include AIDAN as a villain because of his actions. Yes, he’s an AI, and yes, he is not human so he technically can’t be faulted for having faulty logic. Maybe. I would say he can because whoever programmed him should have thought about all of the repercussions and anything that may conflict with the bottom line. In the first book at least, AIDAN does something that he thinks is for the good of the fleet, but to any human would be seen as… bad. I can’t even think of a better word for it right now.

It’s always great to see an AI as a villain rather than a hero because it’s interesting to see their logic on why they make the decisions that they do for the greater good, and their rationale for why one decision makes more sense in the bigger scheme of things than the other. I feel like if AIDAN was a hero, lots of situations would be too easy to solve because of his high intellect and what he can do as an AI.

  1. OMG AIDAN. I have SUCH a love/hate relationship with AIDAN. He kills me with his insanely logical AI actions but at the same time there are moments where I just feel so much empathy and sympathy for him? Throughout the whole series I felt like a ping pong ball in relation to my feelings for him. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to throttle an AI more than I did him 😂Great choice of villain!
