The Mid-Year Freak Out Tag: 2020 Edition

So people have been telling me that it’s time for the mid-year freak out tag again, and I’m so confused because I don’t even remember 2020 happening. Weren’t we like… in some sort of dystopian video game where the levels just kept getting more and more ridiculous and dangerous and we’re still trying to beat the final boss?

And yes, it feels this damn dramatic but whateverrrrrr. Anyway, since I did the mid-year freak out tag last year I figured it would be cool to see if my reading habits changed. Plus I haven’t done tags in a hot minute, so let’s have fun with this, shall we?

[Diverse or Nah] Recapping the Juneteenth Book Fest

It’s been a long time since I’ve done any discussion posts, fun posts, or just anything not review related in a while so I’m really glad to be here writing again. I miss it! I know you probably got to see some of my creative posts for the Forest of Souls Book Tour that I hosted through Hear Our Voices and I hope you had fun seeing those. I had fun making them.

If you didn’t happen to see it on your feed, L.L. McKinney and Saraciea J. Fennell debuted and launched the absolutely amazing Juneteenth Book Fest that took place this Friday. Now, when we talk about Black excellence in the world, the Juneteenth Book Fest exuded that and so much more. I remember Saraciea’s announcement post about it and was immediately excited! I had the day off after advocating for this holiday to be observed at my work, and I knew that I wanted to spend my day seeing the celebration of Black authors and Black stories in the publishing industry through this fest. And let me tell you, IT. WAS. MAGICAL.
