Let’s Talk Bookish | Holiday Reading Plans

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originally created and hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books starting in August 2019, and was then cohosted with Dani @ Literary Lion from May 2020 to March 2022. Aria @ Book Nook Bits has been the host since the beginning of April 2022.

Prompts: It’s almost the end of 2023! Do you have any plans for the end of the year/the holiday season? What books do you want to read before the end of the year?

Welcome back to another entry of Let’s Talk Bookish. I love how creative all of these prompts are! It really makes me think about things that I never thought of before, and gets those thinking juices flowing. Hmm… you know, now that I see that phrase written down, it sounds kinda weird. I get it, but also I don’t like it.

I’m not using it again.

Also, thank you to Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly for coming up with this prompt!

Okay, back to business.

I feel like when I was younger, the holidays were more of a big deal to me. I don’t think it was because I was younger though. I think it was because I was surrounded by family, and they really make the holiday feel like a good time for me. Lately, I haven’t been in the holiday mood because I’ve been alone, and as much as I love the dogs, they can’t do all of the holiday things that I want to do. It’s okay though, because I love being with them and getting to stay home for once.

I will say that being able to stay home without having to worry about work does leave some time to actually read, which I love to do and wish I could do without any interruptions. Since I actually did sign up to get some work done in during the holidays – and even on Christmas because I honestly have no idea if I will be alone or not that day – I’ll have to make sure I do that in between my reading. Mostly, I just want to get as much reading done as possible, while also making sure that my 2024 Reading Journal is prepped, and come up with a game plan for the Winter Reading Challenge I’m going to do starting January.

I may also see what kind of ARCs I need to read and then push those to the top of the priority list, or at least start putting them on a list so I can visually see when they get done. I think it works better when I can see how well I’m doing, rather than just trying to remember off the top of my head. I guess that’s why I have been loving this influx of seeing all these End of the Year stats in some cute visual way from different companies (did they get their inspiration from Spotify Wrapped? Quite possibly).

Speaking of… Here’s my 2023 Book Wrapped post that I did on Instagram, thanks to @cozypagesss for creating the template. Check it out! I’ll have a completed 2023 stats when the year is actually out, but I thought this was fun to put together.

So I guess, long story short, I’m not doing a whole lot of reading activities for the holidays! I guess that’s okay though, since I do need to rest at some point. What about you? Share your plans or your posts here in the comments! I’d love to check it out.

  1. I totally understand what you mean.. while i’m not completely alone, I just have my immediate family (my parents, mainly), which im living with them anyway so it feels like a regular day for me .. We open gifts at midnight on the 24th and have turkey or ham on the 25th 😅that’s it.

That being said I don’t really have a reading plan .. I bought a krampus story, havent read any holiday books yet so we’ll see!

    1. Oh I love that so much Kristina ❤ I wish I could do that with my family. Maybe one day I'll be able to again.

Honestly, opening up presents on the 24th and then eating on the 25th sounds perfect and way more relaxing! I like that idea.

I've yet to read a Krampus story! You'll have to let me know how it goes ❤
