WHAT IF YOU’RE THE ONE WHO HAS TO DIE?

Now that the city of Atrine has been destroyed and Relos Var’s plan to free the dark god Vol Karoth has been revealed—the end of the world is closer than ever.

To buy time for humanity, Kihrin, Janel, and Thurvishar must convince the king of the Manol vané to perform an ancient ritual that will strip the vané of their immortality—a ritual that certain vané will do anything to prevent. Including assassinating the ones bringing the news.

Worse, Kihrin must come to terms with the horrifying possibility that his connection to Vol Karoth is steadily growing in strength. How can Kihrin hope to save anyone when he might turn out to be the greatest threat of them all?

Jenn Lyons lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, three cats, and a lot of opinions on anything from the Sumerian creation myths to the correct way to make a martini. At various points in her life, she has wanted to be an archaeologist, anthropologist, architect, diamond cutter, fashion illustrator, graphic designer, or Batman. Turning from such obvious trades, she is now a video game producer by day, and spends her evenings writing science fiction and fantasy. When not writing, she can be founding debating the Oxford comma and Joss Whedon’s oeuvre at various local coffee shops.

Disclaimer: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Jean Book Nerd, and Tor Books for this free copy. All quotes in this review are taken from the Advanced Reader Copy and may change in final publication.

Totally warning you now that I highly recommend you reading the first two books before you read this one. They are connected, they tell a full story, you need to do it. Thank you again so much to Tor for being so generous and sending a copy of all three books to me to read and review! Stay tuned for my other reviews later on, because they will be doozies and great doozies at that!

So while I will try to not give out any spoilers in this particular novel, I can’t guarantee that there won’t be any spoilers in general from the first two books. Here’s your warning!

First of all, these books are thicc honey.

Don’t ask me where the gif is from because I honestly have no idea.

But I highly recommend you take your time reading these books because they are epic fantasy, and they are strong on the worldbuilding and system involved and you need to be paying attention in order to understand what is going on. Trust me, it will make a lot more sense this way. You also get to hear from a nice cast of characters with different narration styles so you can feel like you are hearing each person’s voice on their own. It makes such a huge difference when each perspective doesn’t sound too similar or sound like it’s just changing who is experiencing the events of the novel. I feel like it allows me to understand the nuances that each character has… which is definitely one of my favorite things about reading books with multiple POVs.

Also, did I mention that there’s dragons involved? If that doesn’t entice you, how are we friends?

Just kidding. But seriously, go read.
