Goodreads Monday – A War of Swallowed Stars by Sangu Mandanna

First post of 2021! Yay!

I’m still freaking sick though. I’ve officially been sick for a whole ass week. I am not happy with my body right now for starting off the year being almost bedridden. I just need to feel better so I can actually eat again, because my stomach would really like to have some sort of sustenance!

Thanks to Dini @ Dini Panda Reads, I’m adding Goodreads Monday to my weekly meme schedule, and I’m excited to do this one. This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners and it invites you to pick a book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it.

A War of Swallowed Stars

by Sangu Mandanna
Series: The Celestial Trilogy #3
Publisher: Sky Pony Press
Release Date: June 15, 2021
Genre: YA Science Fiction

“A rare gem of a sequel . . . Each page drips with action and moral complexities.” —Natasha Ngan, New York Times bestselling author of Girls of Paper and Fire, on A House of Rage & Sorrow

A prince without his kingdom.

A kingdom without its princess.

The destruction of the stars themselves.

War is destroying the galaxy. Esmae has vanished without a trace. A terrifying, ravenous beast is devouring the stars one by one. Titania is offered a gift that may well be a curse. Alexi, the exiled prince, is asked to pay a heavy price for his mistakes. And far, far away, on a dark, mysterious planet, a sleeping god stirs awake.

War or family.

Pride or peace.

As the end of the world draws ever closer, Esmae and Alexi must decide how far they’ll go to win—and who they’ll sacrifice along the way.

Celebrated author Sangu Mandanna promises a gripping conclusion to the Celestial Trilogy in A War of Swallowed Stars.

You mean besides the fact that I need to freaking know what the heck is going to happen with this galaxy now that all hell broke loose? Or besides the fact that this is one of my all time favorite series to date, thanks to me finally getting through one of the first ARCs I received through Edelweiss and kicking myself for not finishing this a long time ago?

Or besides the fact that the war between Esmae and Alexi is one that I am SO invested in that I now need to figure out how to wait until June before I can see the outcome?

Well… I guess after all of that, I would say because this book is going to be joining the list of reasons why Sangu Mandanna is one of my favorite authors, and how a space opera like what Mandanna created using the Mahabharata that makes this so much more appealing to someone who usually don’t like space operas. Not to mention the emotion and turmoil that I’ve been feeling Esmae go through since the very beginning, and how she has been doing her best to somehow push through even though she wants to see the world hurt as much as she does right now. There’s truly something about Esmae that makes me see her as a real person, someone that I could know in my own life, or even some aspects that are very similar to mine and how we aren’t perfect and need some sort of release from all of that hurt and rage.

Long story short: Esmae is a character that I’m truly invested in, and I need to see her journey through to the end.

Even though I’m slowly but surely working on my review for A House of Rage and Sorrow, you can see my review on the first novel A Spark of White Fire. I loved both and I know that I will love this one as well. The only thing I’m super sad about is that when this comes out into the world, the trilogy will be officially over. And that will break my heart for real.
