WWW Wednesday – October 16, 2019

Ayyyye! I don’t even know if I’m really hype for it to be the middle of the week or if I’m just trying to survive the week without going crazy. Who knows, but I’m getting through it as best as I can.

Thank you again to Sam @ Taking on a World of Words for hosting this weekly meme. I’m pretty sure you all know the drill by now, but in case you don’t and you want to join, here are the three questions we always answer:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you will read next?

Still haven’t touched Pachinko because I’m trying to get through The Way You Make Me Feel. From what I read of it so far though, I’m liking it, although I am not liking the blatant girl on girl hate from BOTH parties. It’s not one sided, and it just sucks. I feel like since the synopsis says that they are going to get to know each other better, this could have happened BEFORE they got in trouble, you know? But I get the story has to have some drama. I like it so I’m not complaining.

Not a lot this week which is okay, because finishing that huge ass book that I didn’t end up liking felt like such a huge accomplishment for me that I don’t even mind slowing down with my books lately. I don’t feel like I’m in a race anymore so expect me to have some slow progress until 2020.

Okay I may actually just put the very next book that I want to read here so that I don’t feel disappointed with myself when I don’t see those books move to the “currently reading” or “finished reading” pile. It seems to just like magically disappear, you know?

I don’t know why I never thought to use any hump day gifs before but I’m glad I used them now! Maybe I should use them more often until I get tired of them. Who knows?

  1. I loved both A Gentleman in Moscow and We Set the Dark On Fire! The former is beautifully written and just mesmerizing; the latter is a very cool concept with a nice f/f romance and a fantasy-like commentary on huge problems in our own world (I mean…parents smuggling their child over a wall to give them access to a better life…that doesn’t sound familiar *at all*, does it? /s). I also got to meet Tehlor when she was on a tour for the book, and she’s a very cool, down-to-earth person. And she complimented me on the purple lipstick I was wearing. It was a good time.

    1. Oh gosh, well that makes me more excited to eventually read both of them! I don’t know how long I should wait to read it so that I remember what I want to talk about before the book club meeting, but I know that I don’t want to wait too long like with Eleanor Oliphant. That cut it a little too close hehe. Maybe next week or something 😀

      Oh wow no I didn’t realize that’s what We Set The Dark on Fire is about! That does sound really great to read about in a fantasy type of world. I’m sure some people may not feel it’s familiar if they don’t pay attention to the news, am I right? It happens unfortunately 😦

      1. I mean, We Set the Dark On Fire is about a lot of things, but there is an undercurrent in it reflecting some current political themes. Of course, it doesn’t bash you over the head with it or anything, but it is a good touch.

        As for A Gentleman in Moscow…maybe take notes while you’re reading? Or, less obtrusive, just put a sticky note on any page with something you want to discuss? (A lot of people get confused on the very end of the book as well, about who a certain vague person is, but the author has alluded to the right answer in interviews, so in case it isn’t clear to you right away, you should look that up before the meeting 😊)

        1. I started it and I totally see what you mean! I’m honestly loving it already and I totally agree that it’s not a BASHING YOU ON THE HEAD kind of point that she’s showing in the book, but I can still see it and think about what’s happening in today’s society.

          I think I’m gonna do that, or write it on a notebook since I have to give the book back that night for the next book (I don’t want to spend the meeting taking out the sticky notes if I don’t have to, but if it was my book, I would do that no worries!)

    1. Kathy I freaking loved it so much! I’m still trying to find a physical copy in my area because I want it in my hands like ASAP. If I can’t find it though, I may order it online this weekend. I just don’t want to wait for it any more! I hope you end up getting a chance to read it and liking it ❤

      Ohhhh I've heard of that one too! How is it so far? I'll have to try that.

      1. Oh my gosh, well, sign me up for it, then!! I’m gonna bump it up my TBR pile. Hopefully I can get to it next month!!

        I ended up DNF Tarnished the Stars, sadly, but it’s still got a lot good things going on! I just couldn’t connect with the writing style, which seems to be a common theme for me lately. 🙂

          I haven’t tried Tarnished the Stars, but you’re not the first one to tell me that, so I’m kind of curious on what I would do, honestly. I think connecting with the writing style is so key on whether or not I will like something, so I totally get that!
