Top Ten Tuesday: Settings I’d Like to See More Of (or at all)

As always, thank you so much to Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl for keeping up with hosting Top Ten Tuesdays! It initially was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish until Jana took over in January 2018. I need to do better at scheduling my posts while I’m on vacation, so I’m a little late EST time to post this. It’s not even 8am in Hawaii right now.

Hawaii / Guam / Beach Setting

This one may have been an obvious one but I love reading more about my island home, or somewhere with a beach. Actually, another one that I’ll include in this one is Guam since I haven’t read any book that takes place in Guam (they may exist, but I don’t know about them). Rather than being stuck in the city, what about being surrounded by the ocean?

Kyoto / Feudal Japan

This one may have also been obvious as well, but I love reading books that take place in Japan, but most definitely the countryside of Japan. Kyoto is one of my favorite places to visit in Japan, and there’s so much history of feudal Japan that needs to be told.

Four Nations

Avatar the Last Airbender was the best show I’ve ever watched! Even Legend of Korra was amazing, seeing the legacy that Aang and the Gaang left after defeating Fire Lord Ozai. But what about the other avatars? I’d love to read more about them and just more history surrounding the origin of the Four Nations.

Small Towns

There’s something about a small town that makes the dynamics so much more interesting to read about. Maybe even a small town in Europe?

European Castles

This gives me Beauty and the Beast vibes, and I love being about to read about a mystery in an old castle possibly haunted by the spirits of the old residents.

Atlantis / Ocean Cities

Not just mermaid life, but even how Atlantis works. I love books that take place in a place that has to exist even if we can’t find it. It makes me want to believe in magic.

Space

I’m sure there are a lot of books that deal with space travel and all that jazz, but I want to read more about it and not just traveling through space but just living in space.

Spain

Madrid. Barcelona. Anywhere in Spain. I love Spain so much.

Paris

Anna and the French Kiss was one of my favorite novels that took place in Paris, and I need more like this. Doesn’t have to be a love story, but anything in Paris would be fun.

Egypt

I’ve always been fascinated by ancient Egypt, and I swear I don’t see a lot of books that delve into this topic. I’d love a YA book that takes place there (yes, I’m pretty sure Rick Riordan has one and I need to read it ASAP).

This was a fun prompt! Although I realized that I couldn’t really think of many settings to read about. It’s almost like I wasn’t really paying attention to it, but honestly I think I should look at that a little more. What about you?

Sunset Beach

Here’s another picture of my trip. We woke up as early as we could to see the sun on the beach. It was one of my favorite things to see ever. I definitely missed being back on my island.

    1. Thanks so much for visiting Susan! I feel like thanks to shows like OUAT, it makes me want to read more about small towns, and possibly even live in one!

      That’s the only island that I haven’t been to, actually. I had a chance to go a couple of years ago but I got sick. Totally regretting not getting on the plane now.

  6. I love a good space setting. And beachy settings too- I could use more books set in Hawaii! I did read a book- Vitro- that had Guam as a location, but unfortunately it was only briefly in the beginning. It was set on a tropical island though.

    I love Atlantis and underwater settings too.

    1. Oh my gosh! There was a book with Guam as a setting? I’ll have to look it up! I mean even mentioning Guam without it being a joke is always fun for me to hear. I kind of get tired of hearing Guam as a joke about something being either so far or so outlandish? That may just be me.

      I love the underwater settings! It’s a world that can be explored so much more 🙂

  9. I would so love to see more books set in the Four Nations! I’d never leave that world, if I could. I LOVE Ancient Egypt, but I didn’t know Rick Riordan had a book set there? I’ll have to look it up. I also love books set in castles. Because castles have history and secret tunnels and probably ghosts and also, it’s low-key totally a dream of mine to own a castle (because who wouldn’t want to?!).

    1. I LOVE YOURS! You did such an amazing job 🙂 I’m gonna share it so I can keep it forever. 🙂 I’d never leave the Four Nations! I mean I love that in Korra, there’s also Republic City, but I want to see more of the origin story, kind of like before Wan and even after him and the other Avatars! I want to say its the Kane Chronicles, but I may be totally wrong! If you end up owning a castle, can you let me visit ❤

      1. If I end up owning a castle, you may have a whole wing, my dear. Or a spot in the servant’s quarters, if you wish, which will be transformed into a series of totally decked out guest houses, for people who want to visit but not have to put up with us lol. 😉

        I honestly didn’t finish Korra. I didn’t love it. I thought it was just okay. I want more about the Avatars, though, and the days before Aang, or when Aang was being raised before the Fire Lord attacked, etc.
